On The Road

Support Bob and Brandy on the road!

Dear Friends:

As you know, it takes a few bucks to get across the country. There are a lot of unforeseen expenses... equipment, food, Brandy treats, occasional lodging and the biggest unexpected expense yet: the emergency gall bladder surgery that forced my trip to be interrupted.

I'm recovered and back on the road now and headed toward a strong finish in San Francisco! Unfortunately, the interruption of my trip and my medical bills have decimated my trip fund. If you are able, please consider helping to ease our financial strain while also supporting a great cause... bringing music and hope back to New Orleans.

To support the ride, you may donate toward logistical expenses via the paypal link below or you may pre-order the official PhatBoy Riding t-shirt. If you know others who might be willing to assist, please consider spreading the word. I feel very blessed to have folks ask how they can help with logistics.

Your generosity and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated. Thanks again,
Bob & Brandy

p.s. We've gotten many great hosting questions and have attempted to answer some of them below. Thank you for your kind inquiries!

You do not need a PayPal account to use this method, but please note that donations toward ride logistics are not tax- deductible. If you are interested in making a tax-deductable donation to the charity for which Bob is riding, High Sierra Foundation, please visit the Give Five, Keep The Music Alive page.

You may also donate to Bob and Brandy's ride by check. Please make checks payable to PhatBoy Riding and mail to

Bob is also an Independent Product Consultant Support for Tahitian Noni International. Buying a bottle of Travelin' Bob's favorite Healthy Beverage is another way to help support the ride.

Some info about hosting Bob and Brandy:

Q: Is there Sag vehicle traveling with them?

A: From Florida to Austin, TX, there was no sag vehicle and Bob and Brandy biked self-supported, though occasionally, newscasters in the area would catch up with them or a host family would ride out to meet them or send them off in the morning. Post gall bladder surgery, Bob and Brandy have added a support vehicle to their trip.

Q: What can I do to help host?

A: You can help in whatever capacity that you like as a host when they come through. Some hosts like to drive to see them, but that can be difficult since it requires planning (riding around the weather can limit such planning). Other hosts like to have them stay in their house, camp in their yard, stay in their pop-up camper, or whatever arrangements they can best offer. You can also meet them for dinner, plan an outing with them as a playtime for Brandy, or whatever you two work out. They love meeting hosts and it is so nice for Brandy to play with other dogs. Other hosts have met them for breakfast or lunch. Riding along on a bike to meet them at the end of a ride or to send them off in the morning, is also a real treat for all.

Q: How can we handle meals for them?

A: Meals are a great time to visit! You can meet for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, meet in a park with a picnic, take them homemade food at their hotel- whatever you'd like to do based on where they (and you) are, what time of day it is, and what your other commitments are at that time.

Q: How can contact Bob to inquire about hosting, meals, etc?

A: Bob will be checking email and can be reached at bob at phatboyriding dot com.

Q: I live too far away to be a host family, but I'd like to show my support. What can I do to help?

A: There have been many kind offers. Some people have wanted to sponsor a B&B or a hotel in a certain area, although this can get tricky since we don't know exactly where or when they will be stopping in that area. Others have friends or family they call to participate as hosts. If you would like to sponsor housing for a night use the paypal link above. Hotel costs average $65 per night.

Q: What if I just want to give money to help with whatever expenses?

A: Some of you may want to sponsor Bob and Brandy for a day. Right now that runs between $65 - $115 a day depending on where they stay, eat or any misc. expenses.  You can also do so through PayPal or by mailing to the address above.
