Who We Are?

Name: Bob Carter

Nationality: American
Prof./Education: Entrepreneur , James Madison University.
A.K.A.: Travelin' Bob, Say Bob, Bobby,

I always liked to travel and always had and have great pleasure in seeing new places and experience new ways of doing things. Likewise I experience great fascination just by observing people.

After graduating college in 1984 I left for a summer trip to Israel . I lived and worked on a Kibbutz. This was fascinating and continued to fuel my desire to travel. After returning to the US. I went to work with the Hertz corporation in Roanoke Virginia. During this time I met some folks from a group called YWAM and decided I wanted to due a short term missions trip. I enrolled in their DTS program and I was off to a place called Heerde in Holland ( maybe this is where I fell in love with Dutch made bikes) Lots of folks ride bikes there! Then we did what was called an outreach to Kathmandu in the nation of Nepal. This was an awesome experience.

Reading about traveling the world on a bike has waken a dormant interest which has been in me ever since I was a child of traveling the Southeast by car and I can’t wait to see US and other parts of the world and this time on a bicycle and a greater time frame. The past few winter months of 2005 and during the spring of 2006 I’ve started to train via a spinning class and changing my eating lifestyle to prepare for the months of pedaling ahead.

I have lived in 3 countries outside the US Israel, Holland, and Nepal. I have traveled through or visited 28. I have been to every state in the US except Alaska. Now its time to start a list of states and countries that I have Pedaled through. So you see why they call me Travelin Bob. What a gift to have...the gift of travel.

One of the great lessons I learned in Nepal was in serving others. I believe this lesson learned has been part of the motivation in wanting to do this ride to raise awareness to a healthy lifestyle, Cancer Survival, and Helping Musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Besides getting a much-needed break from running my own business there is another motivation behind embarking on such a great journey. I have a large wish to experience the world as it really is. Good things and bad things. We often get so many different view points from medias and it can be difficult to figure out what’s right and wrong.

This will be a marvelous opportunity to serve and regain my health and be the person God created me to be. The Health Scare that I recently had has confirmed the direction I was taking and it has further inspired me to go with everything I have to see this dream realized. I've been given a second chance and I am taking action to be a good steward of this opportunity.

Breed: Chocolate Lab
Education: Florida Canine Academy
A.K.A.: Yankee --her named was changed before she came to live in Atlanta

Even though I’ve never done any real road racing, or even rode a bike, or never had a passionate relationship to Tour de France, and never fancied multicolored bicycle jerseys, except maybe chasing the ones that wear them. The idea of biking around the world seem like a highly alluring, explosive and unstoppable as a two-staged rocket, that needs to be fired.

To me it pretty simple. My owner Travelin Bob is buying this trailer to pull me across the country. Imagine that ! At least he didn't buy a tandem bike adapted with one of those hamster treadmills and expect me to help.

Alas , I am his faithful companion and I will be wagging my tail with every push of the pedal or at least when I get fed or get to play Frisbee. Now this is the life. Make sure you become part of the support team. I do want to eat ( send lots of treats)

Thanks Brandy and definitely I am no Yankee !
